A couple of semi-unrelated metaphors crossed my radar screen recently.

From a comment posted by "Gordon Rae" concerning an argument between two pundits

A proverb cited by a colleague at a recent meeting, concerning over-specialization

"It's not a stovepipe, it's a cylinder of excellence!"
